Role of Pool Controllers
SUMMARY
1. Arrive 15 minutes prior to 1st game
2. Ensure pool is setup
3. Ensure official table & time clock are ready
4. Hang the SAWPI sponsors banners
5. Advise teams of starting time
6. Provide a team sheet for each team
7. Advise them of their need to each find table official
8. Appoint referee/referees
9. Ensure team sheet filled in & official table manned
10. Start game no later than 4 minutes after official time even if teams are not ready
11. Ensure scoresheet is completed with all necessary signatures, best & fairest players & any reports. (Only need to submit 1 fully completed scoresheet to SAWPI)
12. Fill in SAWPI Referee payment form
13. Notify teams in the next game as per points5,6 &7 at time of the game being played
14. At 6.15 ensure the AAC staff are ready for 6.30pm pool change to Full pool
15. Tidy up & put away equipment & banners at end of night
16. Post all official team sheets to SAWPI
Pool Game Size (Minor Round games)
- U15 games across pool, 7 minute running, no timeouts
- Mens Reserves 3/4 pool, 7 minute running, no timeouts
- All other games, except A Grade - full pool, 7 minute running, no timeouts
- A grade - full pool, 7 minute ACTUAL, no timeouts
Full Details
Arrive at least 10 minutes prior to scheduled starting time of 1st game.
If the time recording equipment is not at pool side then you will need to get the equipment from the middle room under the stand. A key can be borrowed from a AAC pool assistant
Advise AAC pool staff of proposed games schedule & ensure pool setup for 1st game (normally across pool)
Arrange the displaying of the SAWPI sponsors banners that are kept in the middle room under the Eastern stand
Speak to both clubs team manager advising them of the proposed starting time & request they complete a scoresheet with a full players list.
Request each team supply a person/persons for the official table to either run the time clock or complete the scoresheet.
If 2 table assistants can not be arranged then the 35 second clock does not have to be used. If no table assistant can be arranged then the game can become a scratch match.
Referees can be requested from each club involved in the match. However you may have a suitable referee approach you to undertake the task and they are acceptable unless a competing club have a justified reason.
For across pool games you only require 1 referee.
The referee payment for games are
- $10 per game for across pool games(normally 1 referee)
- $20 per game for full pool games (normally 2 referee - $10 each)
- $40 per for A Grade Mens game (normally 2 referee - $20 each)
A referee can be inexperienced and be assisted by an experienced referee. Who receives the payment can be negotiated between the two
Should the pool controller not be able to provide a referee, even from competing players, then the game may be called off.
Once the previously advised starting time has passed and a team is ready in the water the referee can start the game. Should no team be ready 4 minutes after the advised time then the game clock should be started.
The table officials should be asked to
- verify the team lists
- complete the scoresheet (ie keep goal score and a foul count)
- make 1 scoresheet the official copy to be forwarded to SAWPI
- each sign the official scoresheet at the end of the game
Referees should be asked at the end of the game to
- check the official scoresheet
- select & record the 3 best & fairest players on the reverse side of the official scoresheet
- provide all details of reports on the reverse side of the official scoresheet
- sign the official scoresheet
The pool controller should
- check the official scoresheet is signed off by all then sign
- complete the referee payment details for each game on your club SAWPI form
- put all equipment and sponsor banners away at the completion of the nights competition
- collect all the official scoresheets for the nights games and post to:

The pool controller may remind teams and referees of the zero tolerance policy at any time
The pool controller may assist to negotiate a practise game if a one team has forfeited
