How the A grade format is programmed this season.
A “warm up” round on 28 July 2010 will be played, consisting of 6 a side round robin, played over two 7 min running time halves, with a 3 minute break at half time. Each team will play each other on the same night, thus each team gets two matches. The aim behind this is to get the players out once before the actual comp starts to play some water polo and to also ensure that each team has a full complement when the comp starts the following week (4 August). Consult Sporting Pulse for start times
Actual competition: 3 teams (Tritons, Henley and Vikings) will play six rounds commencing 4 August and playing weekly on Wednesdays until Round 6 on 8 Sept. Semi Finals will be played on 15 September and the Grand Final on 22 September. This will determine the Premiership. Thereafter there will be a break for school holidays and then a new competition “The SAWPI Fast Fives Competition” will begin on 20 October culminating on 8 December.
Fast Fives format : Four teams will be drawn up from (Jets) Henley and Vikings teams and also from some members from the Tritons team. There may be some consideration to some Eastern Saints players at their request, but it is expected that most of their team will be playing in the B Grade. These teams will be picked so as to ensure similar strength and provide good, high quality competition and standard of water polo. These players will be drawn form the Jets squad and other individuals of approximate standard to make up about 24 players, from which the four teams will be drawn. Players entered in this competition may not play in the B grade competition. However, some players that played in the A grade club competition who do not play in the Fast Fives competition may play in the B grade club competition. In short, you cannot play B grade if you played Fast Fives
B Grade Competition
B Grade will start on Wednesday 20 October at a venue still to be determined. There will be eight weeks of comp followed by a break for Christmas and then continuing on 2 February 2011.
..................................................................................................................... Adelaide Aquatic Centre roof upgrade to begin in 2011 The Adelaide Aquatic Centre has been the State’s premier aquatic facility for the past 40 years, and the time has come to start handing over elite sports privileges to the new State Aquatic Centre at Marion. Adelaide City Council and the State Government will work in partnership over coming months to ensure a smooth transition for elite aquatic sports groups from the Adelaide Aquatic Centre to the new State Aquatic Centre. The work to upgrade the Adelaide Aquatic Centre roof will begin in early 2011, and during the upgrade the pools in the Centre will be closed. The Centre’s health club will remain open but will be temporarily relocated to the foyer, and the kiosk, reception and customer service centre will also remain open. The upgrade to the roof has been timed so that during the work swimmers will be able to use the new State Aquatic Centre, which is expected to open its doors in March 2011. Paul Anderson, Executive Director of the Office of Recreation and Sport, highlighted that this collaboration would provide the best result for aquatic users. “The State Aquatic Centre is an exciting development for all South Australians. By working together, the State Government and Adelaide City Council will support aquatic sports and the wider community to have continued and easy access to aquatic facilities.” Lord Mayor Michael Harbison said that the upgrade to the roof represents the first in a series of improvements, and the start of a reinvigoration of the Adelaide Aquatic Centre. “The new State swimming centre will be a great resource for South Australians, and will fulfil the State’s premier aquatic facility role. It’s important that the Adelaide Aquatic Centre now focuses on being a community leisure facility. “A feasibility study conducted over the next year will also help Council to identify how the Adelaide Aquatic Centre can be developed to provide the right leisure mix to become the City’s premier family leisure destination,” he said. “We are committed to creating an Aquatic Centre that offers fun and fitness in a modern environment, and I’m looking forward to seeing the Centre undergo this exciting transformation.” ..................................................................................................................... ..............................................................................................................
